GitHub CLI is a way to “supercharge your command line”. According to the company, many developers value working directly from the command line. With the new gh, dev’s can use GitHub directly in their terminal. “We hope you’ll love the foundation we’ve built with pull requests and issues. And we’re even more excited about the future as we explore what it looks like to build a truly delightful experience with GitHub on the command line.” As this is a beta release, the feature set is limited. GitHub CLI beta is available now on macOS, Windows, and Linux. GitHub is asking testers to provide feedback to help improve the service.
Indian Expansion
As mentioned, GitHub also announced this week it is seeking further growth in India through a dedicated subsidiary. The company says India is now home to the third-largest community of developers on the platform. In 2019 alone the market saw a 22% growth and 75% boost in public repositories. Called GitHub India Private Limited, the new subsidiary will actively work in the country to broaden interest to developers.
