With the release of yesterday’s Skip Ahead release (Insider Preview Build 18237 (19H1)) to the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft rebranded its Microsoft Apps to Your Phone Companion on Android. Before getting into the details, we will just say this is a welcome change. Saying the Microsoft Apps app never made sense. As the name suggests, the new Your Phone Companion app will be a companion for Your Phone. It will be the application where content from a smartphone is synced to Windows 10. In the release, Microsoft confirmed the change and said the rebrand was based on customer feedback: “This week, we are bringing our apps closer together – Your Phone app on PC now links you to Your Phone Companion app on your Android phone. See the resemblance? Companions? Yea thought you’d like that! We heard your feedback on having both apps share a stronger name game.” Microsoft Apps should now update for Android users and become the Your Phone Companion. The application works for all Android devices running version 7.0 and over.
Your Phone
In recent weeks Your Phone has been through beta on Android and testing and preview on Windows 10. Your Phone is among the most interesting Windows 10 apps currently in development. As mentioned, the service lets users mirror their device to a Windows 10 PC. As we have reported before, Your Phone is an Android exclusive. Microsoft says it is unlikely that the feature will come to iOS because of the restrictions on Apple’s platform.
