If you are unfamiliar with City Art Search, it is a service that allows users to search fine art through several methods. Searches can be conducted looking for artists, century of the work, and the artistic era. Microsoft wants users to use the app to find museums and galleries to visit to see the art. Users can search by city or gallery and find which works are hosted in those locations. The company describes the app in the following way: “Search over 8,600 famous works of art around the world, and see which galleries and museums they are located in. Find your favorite artists’ masterpieces, or if you’re planning to visit a city, discover the must-see works of art. You can also have your Lock Screen update with a beautiful new artwork every hour. Works on Windows 10 & 8.1 for Phone, PC, and Tablet.”
Since previously launching City Art Search, Microsoft has housed many of the most important works of art. Of course, there is always more to add, and this latest update expands the directory to include many more works.
Update
With this update, the company says the search tool is now much more powerful. To make the experience smoother, Microsoft has also updated the UI, and also taken care of some bugs. Aside from being a strong art database, Microsoft also allows City Art Search to set the wallpaper on a device. Users can set the wallpaper from works within the database. This can be set to rotation so the image changes every hour. Microsoft’s City Art Search app is available now for free via the Windows Store, for devices running Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, Windows 8.1, and Windows 8.1 Mobile.
