In fact, make that late spring with a May launch the most likely. We previously reported Windows 10 20H1 was likely to be finalized in December. That was probably the case, although Microsoft is only announcing it now. It does seem as though the current Windows 10 Preview Build 19041 is the final Build candidate of the branch. That said, don’t be surprised to see Microsoft refine the build in the months between now and the launch of version 2004. In many ways, finalizing an update and letting it have months to cool off before launch. Certainly, such a strategy will help Microsoft avoid launch issues that affected Windows 10 May 2019 Update and grounded the chances of Windows 10 October 2018 Update. What is clear is that the features for Windows 10 20H1 are complete and ready to roll.
Update Changes
Microsoft had changed its Windows 10 update strategy. As we reported in June, Microsoft changed major Windows 10 updates to once-yearly events. The Fast Ring would handle major Windows 10 updates, which were moved to once annually. As for the Slow Ring, it was scheduled to be solely for testing minor updates. These would arrive in the second half of the year. Responding to negative feedback, Redmond suggests the pilot program will be removed for Insiders. Furthermore, it is not expected to return. “There isn’t a formal plan in place to deliver future releases in the same way”– Microsoft.
