However, new information suggests the main focus will be neither of those things. Instead, Microsoft will probably be talking about Windows 10 Cloud. The information comes from ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, who is known to have reliable sources. It’s further backed by Cassim Ketfi of Numerama. Part of the clue is in the codename. Sources say the event is called “Bespin” internally. Star Wars fans may recognize the name, as well as one of its settlements, Cloud City. The rest comes from unnamed connections.

Windows 10 Cloud Details

You may think that Windows 10 Cloud is exactly what it sounds like. Unfortunately, you would be wrong. Reports so far suggest that Cloud will not be a cloud-based version of Windows 10. Instead, it’s a simplified OS that runs UWP apps exclusively. In essence, it’s an intuitive version that can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro at any point. Though mostly speculation, it could be an answer to Google’s Chrome OS or the simplicity of OSX. However, this doesn’t mean we won’t see a Surface Pro 5 at all. Sources suggest it could still happen, but it will only be a minor hardware upgrade over the previous iteration. It’s sticking with the Surface Connector charging and will use Intel’s Kaby Lake processors. A Surface Book 2, on the other hand, doesn’t close. Foley’s sources say Microsoft isn’t ready for an announcement just yet, though it may come at some point. Whatever happens at the event, it will be interesting to see just how Windows 10 Cloud differs from other versions. UWP only is certainly a restriction, but that annoyance could be offset by the choice of ARM or Intel processors. Naturally, we’ll have to wait to find out if that’s the case. Reports say the event will be in early May, and press passes should come any day now.
